Current Information:Military Medal Enlisted-Stratford Bucquoy Road Cemetery, Ficheux, France
From 4th-10th September, 1917, the 2nd Royal Irish battalion of 49 Brigade, 16th Division were in the front line near Hamelincourt, a few kilometres south of Arras. They held 1100 metres of what had been the German Hindenburg Line. On 6th September the enemy plastered these positions with 2000-3000 gas shells which caused 20 casualties in the battalion. William Brown died from wounds on 8th September and it is likely that he was one of those wounded in this attack. |
